Approach information

Any watercraft going through any of the ports must communicate ETA to the Valletta or Marsaxlokk Port Control prior to arrival or departure. ETA contents should include Name of Water craft, Port of Registration, IMO or Official Number, Length Overall, Draft, Beam, Agent, Nature of Cargo, Number of Passengers, Last Port of Call and permission to enter or leave port

VHF calls include Channels 12/14/16. – 24/7 Service

Ship / Yacht agent services, Port formalities, Pilotage and Mooring services are compulsory for watercrafts exceeding 300 GT

Pilot board vessels at the Fairway Buoy Pilot Station. Duty pilot also has the right to request Tug assistance for arrival and departure.

Customs & Immigration
 
Any water crafts sailing in or out of territorial waters must declare their arrival or departure through customs and Immigration offices within 24 hours prior departure or 24 hours after arrival

Berthing Information

There are no arrival / departure time restrictions, except when national activities, regattas and other services are carried out in port.
Official port closure days are 31st March and the 8th September whilst other dates covering events, works, regattas or championships are announced by Transport Malta through Notice to Mariners

Several Marinas and berthing services are available especially in the Valletta, Cottonera and Sliema region. There is also a yacht Marina in the small fishing and ferry harbour at Mgarr, Gozo

Yachts can also anchor at assigned anchorage areas away from designated swim zones. Kindly ensure that charts or systems are updated to adhere to local anchorage regulations and ensure safety to swimmers.

Transport Facilities

Numerous transportation services are available to and from both ports including public transport, land and water taxi, private bus and chauffer services and public water transport in Valletta and Sliema Area.

 
Bunkering, Water supplies and Waste disposal services

The following fuel grades are available in duty paid or duty free and are supplied by several operators by bunker barge or road barge

Fuel Grades: IFO range from 380 to 30 CST, Gas Oil (Diesel)

Fresh and potable water is available through local water bowser operators or marina facilities. Fresh waster can also be supplied by barge upon request

Garbage, Sewage & Recycling are available on request for both dry and wet garbage collection within both ports. Usually collection of solid or liquid waste is collected from quayside only and any tank cleaning services are rendered at Ricasoli Tank Cleaning facilities upon request
